The Characteristic of God's True Servant vs. The Characteristic of Worldly Performer
A servant according to the Bible is a devoted and helpful follower of Jesus's example of servanthood. One who is humble before God. Someone who is ready to act as God nudges! Also, one who inspires other, and is willing to meet the needs of other people. All at the same time remembering that it is not about money or reward. Jesus explained to his follower that, "Whoever would be first among you must be servant of all", according to Mark 10:44. A good and faithful servant is who God wants us to be in this challenging world that we live in today. Good and faithful servants are caring and they have the best interest for other at heart. They are here to serve and not demanding to being served. Also, they truly care for the well being of others whom they are called to serve. The characteristics of a true servant is one who serves when no one is paying attention. They serve to uplift the people around them as God upholds them. The Lord is faithful to uphold his true servants at all times. Men may give you gifts, but a true servant must never depend on the accolades provided by men or the amount of money that they may offer them. God is the ultimate rewarder of his true servants. A true servant does not demand his will upon other, because God will be faithful to make sure his servants are well taken care of through his divine love and providence. God may use men to give gifts to his true servants to express their appreciation, but true servants must never give the glory or credit to man as being the sole supplier of the provisions. Only God gets the praise and all the glory, when it is all said and done! Isaiah 42:1 states, "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights, I have put my Spirit upon Him, He will bring forth justice to the nations". God's true servants does not seek man approval, but rather they are under the sole direction of God himself; therefore, He will use them to do exploit in the earth by His divine direction and by His governing authority. Jesus said, in Mark 10:45,"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve." Jesus himself should be our role model when it comes to serving others here on earth. When He dwelled on the earth being fully God and knowing what it was to be fully man as well, he was a true example of a servant for us as believers to pattern our lives after. He was an obedient servant to conduct the will of God the Father in earth as it was definitively established in Heaven! When He washed the feet of His followers, He was demonstrating the true characteristic of a true servant of God.
A true servant does not wait to be asked to serve, they see what needs to be done and willingly commit to getting the job done. They don't stand around for pats on the backs, they keep working until the job is completed. True servant find it a joy to look at completed tasks and the people who are enjoying the fruit of their servanthood. They do not work to perform, but instead they perform to complete the work that is at hand. God has called all of us to be His true servant according to the gifts or the capabilities which He has given us. This is true according to, 1 Peter 4:10-11, which states, "God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping other? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen/So Be It!!
Being a true servant does not make you a slave, instead it grant you the opportunity to pour out of you what God had placed in you to serve humanity around you each and everyday. Slavery is a forced act upon you; however, being a servant is a willing act and an opportunity to render out of you what God has graced you to be excellent at while serving and doing your part to make the world around you display His glory here in earth as it is in Heaven. Therefore; each day whatever your occupation is you are not to look at it as a job, but rather an opportunity to be a true servant of Most High God, who has ordained you to bring His heart and His will to all those who are in your circle of influence each day. Therefore, whether you are a homemaker/at home mom, an executive, a school teacher, a doctor. a husband, a wife, a child etc., you are called by God to be a true servant and especially if you are born-again by His Spirit. Jesus said in red, in Matthew 23:11-12, "The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted". This passage scripture should inspire all of us as believers to want to be or become true servants of God and not succumb to compromise in the world as performers. True servant does not have to strive in life as performers does, because true servant are called by God and all of their rewards and provision comes from Him. He makes one rich and adds no sorrow with it. Performers on the other hand are promoted by man and they work to be men pleasers and not God's true servants. There are many pitfalls in being worldly performers, because if man is your sole promoter then you are of no value than a puppet on a string! (Selah/Meditate on this!!)
A true servant seeks to work as unto God, but a performer works to please man. When we seek to please God, He will make even our enemies be at peace with us; however, if we seek to please man, we fall into many woes and worries in life, because when we can not achieve what man's expectation of us is, he in return make us his enemy to his objectives. True servants get their energy and motivation from the Spirit of God, so they will be refreshed by God Himself. In the matter of time, a performer will wear himself out because his number one goal is to strive to out perform all those who are around him in order to get to the top and in return he will eventually burn himself out. God gives supernatural energy to a true servants. A true servants goal is to promote and uplift others and in doing so they become uplifted. "Those who water others will themselves be watered"!(Proverbs 11:25)
Performers eventually will be replaced by the next person who comes along and out perform them; however, on the other hand, a true servant is not in competition with anyone else; therefore, being an competitor is not a part of their mindset. A true servant's goal is to inspire others to become like them in order to achieve a common goal in uplifting others. Performers seek the patting on the back or the constant thirst for man's approval, but when these things does not happen they become sad and disgruntled, which led to many other negative emotions and ultimately to deep depression. One must always remember, if man put you in a position at any time he can take it away. But if God promotes you, He will protect and provide for you and He will make even your enemies be at peace with you. I choose be a true servant of God each day, rather than being man's puppet on a string as a performer. This is something that each individual has to choose for themselves. The most fulfilling choice is a to be a true servant because you will be sustain by God Himself and who would not want HIM backing them in all of their day to day endeavors!! This is something that we all must stay mindful of by constant refreshing our souls (our minds, our will and our emotions) to what Jesus said to us all in scripture regarding being true, devoted servants of Most High God and in the end of our lives here on earth, we will hear HIM say these word, "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little. I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master". (Matthew 25:21)
In closing, I pray that this blog post will be an exhortation that encourages all who read it with an open mind and spirit to move forward striving to be more like Jesus and serve others who are in your surrounding each day. If we all serve through the supernatural power of Holy Spirit and the love of JESUS as a servant, we can make this world a better place each day forward until we are all called to our Heavenly home to live forever in the presence of God Almighty!!
Many Blessings, Always!!!
